Members Communication – 13 August 2025
Dear Wardens Member or Supporter

Last December we made the difficult decision to withdraw from our proposed move to Castle Farm after a significant reduction in the Developer’s offer for our existing site put a financial hole in the project that could not (and cannot) be bridged.

At the same time, we committed the future of our Club to Glasshouse Park and set about working through what we believe will be required to make our clubhouse and playing facilities fit for purpose and sustainable for the next 30 years and beyond.

We have made good progress, establishing clear direction on how to improve drainage on the playing field, and costing the physical improvements we need and aspire to in the clubhouse and the surrounding paths and roads.

That work has also confirmed the size of the challenge we face in combining the future day to day running of our club with the effort required to pursue those improvement projects and securing the grants and other sources of funding that will make them affordable.

Some of these discussions have required us as your elected Board to think about what our future objectives for the Club are and these debates have led us to an important conclusion. Many of the existing Members of the Club Board do not believe they are the right people to make decisions about the future. We believe that the future of our Club should be in the hands of those who will be here for the next 10, 15 or 20 years – not the last 10, 15 or 20.
So dear Member, Parent, Guardian, Coach or Supporter – several Board Members are planning to step down at our next AGM in October, clearing the way for the next generation of leaders to set the direction of and run our Club. It is very important that we give you the information and opportunity you need to understand what part you could play in our future and that you appreciate how critical it is for the Club that the next generation of leaders do get involved. We are convinced that with new faces there will be new energy in the shaping and management of the club, and we are excited about the opportunities that this presents to everybody.

Our plan is that starting with this letter, we will run a communication programme through August and September – giving you the chance to understand how the club is run, and the opportunities and challenges that are to come. We will make ourselves available to meet with you so groups of you can work out how you will run it in the future. To give you an idea of scale, we believe that achieving a sustainable Club leadership team, where each individual has a sensible and achievable area of volunteering responsibility, requires at least 25 people to step up and make their contribution.

So please check your calendar. Do all you can to be available on Thursday 16th October 2025 to attend the AGM, which is when you as Members (and supporters) will decide the future of the Club.
In the meantime, please look out for more information on what type of involvement you could have, and seek out any existing Board Members in the coming weeks to ask any questions that come to mind.

Yours
John Casey
Chair, on behalf of KWSC Board
